Nokia today announced the C3 Touch and Type, an affordable Symbian phone that combines a simple design with the benefits of a touch screen display. The Finnish company said new C3, an update to an earlier version of the phone, adds a 2.4-inch touch screen display, high-speed HSDPA Internet and features an improved 5.0-megapixel camera, but has a standard numeric keypad rather than a QWERTY keyboard.
The device runs on Nokia's Symbian Series 40 software for simple access to email, instant messaging and Facebook and Twitter. It also connects to Ovi Store for games and applications.
Nokia said the new C3 is priced around $190 and will be launched in the fourth quarter.
The struggling company has been losing market share after largely missing the transition to smartphones. Earlier this week, after shaking up its top management, the company showed off its new line of products, running its revamped Symbian^3 software, to help it compete with smartphone specialists Apple and BlackBerry maker Research in Motion.
